Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency is a web site that hosts videos and commentaries analysing portrayals women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in the popular media. She's committed to removing stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. In addition she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed towards women as well as marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the fields of social thought and political science from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and women's rights from a young age. The determined lady had planned to start a web-based series examining the gender roles in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. The attack wasn't enough to deter her. It actually increased her importance as a feminist and media critic. Many awards have been presented to her for all the contributions that she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This educational nonprofit explores women's representations in pop culture narratives.
